Editorial Standards
How we research, write, and label every piece of content we publish.
Our editorial approach
The Senior Traveler creates curated travel intelligence for experienced travellers over 50. We combine AI-assisted research with human editorial review to produce destination guides, hotel assessments, and practical travel content that helps readers make informed decisions.
We are entirely transparent about our methods. Every property recommendation carries a clear label indicating how it was produced, what sources it draws on, and whether it was visited in person.
The Two Tiers of Curation
We do not believe a single AI system can sleep in every hotel, nor can a single human critic read millions of data points. Therefore, our content operates on two distinct tiers:
- Tier 01: Curated Guides — Broad, algorithmic curation built on our Travel Intelligence foundation. This is a data-informed reading of a destination or property, drawn from extensive research across 22 categories (including guest sentiment, accessibility records, and climate trends). No physical visit was made.
- Tier 02: Verified Stays — Deep, first-hand curation. An AI-generated data brief guides our contributor before they visit the property. They conduct an unannounced stay, experiencing the property first-hand, testing the comfort, acoustics, and service. The verdict is definitive and independent.
Disclosure labels
Every recommendation carries one of two disclosure labels, visible at the top of the article:
- ◇ Curated Guide — Hotels and destinations selected through AI-assisted research and editorial review. Not all properties have been personally visited.
- ✓ Verified Stay — A contributor personally visited this property. The article reflects rigorous first-hand experience.
Commercial independence
Our editorial independence is absolute.
We do not accept sponsored content or paid placements. We do not participate in affiliate programs that would influence our rankings, and we never let access dictate our verdicts. A property cannot buy its way into a Curated Guide, nor can it influence the outcome of a Verified Stay.
AI-assisted research
The Senior Traveler uses AI tools to assist with research — aggregating reviews, analysing location data, and identifying patterns across public sources. It builds the structural foundation from millions of data points, allowing our editors to focus entirely on human experience.
AI provides the map, but a human must walk the territory. Every piece of content is reviewed, refined, and approved by our Editorial Board before publication. We never publish automated ratings or summaries without editorial oversight.
Hotel assessments
Our hotel assessments evaluate properties against five strict criteria tailored for the traveller in the second half of life: Location, Comfort, Service, Dining, and Suitability.
We focus on comfort, night-time acoustics, and practical reality (such as step-free access and safe walking routes) rather than loud resort programming or hype. We never reduce a property to a single mathematical score, relying instead on narrative verdicts that respect the nuance of travel.
Corrections
When we make a mistake, we correct it clearly and promptly. Corrections are noted at the top of articles and logged on our Corrections page. To report an error: corrections@the-senior-traveler.com.
